To remove Amazon seller feedback, request removal from Feedback Manager in Seller Central. Amazon typically removes feedback only when it contains obscene language or personal information, or when the whole comment is a product review; feedback about delivery on a Fulfilled by Amazon order is marked as Amazon’s responsibility instead. Otherwise, only the buyer can remove it.

That leaves two legitimate routes: ask Amazon when the feedback breaks its rules, or fix the buyer’s problem and let them decide. Anything that trades money or products for a change in feedback breaks Amazon’s policies and can put your account at risk. Etsy has similar rules, which our guide to handling a bad review on Etsy explains.

Seller feedback vs product reviews

Amazon runs two separate rating systems, and sellers often mix them up. The removal rules, and what you can do about each, are different. Our guide on getting more Amazon reviews covers the product review side.

Seller feedback Product reviews
What it rates You as a seller: shipping, packaging, accuracy, customer service The product itself: quality, fit, performance
Where it shows Your seller profile and feedback rating The product detail page, shared by every seller of that item
Affects Your seller rating and account health metrics The product’s star rating and conversion
Can the seller request removal? Yes, through Feedback Manager, if it meets Amazon’s criteria Only by reporting reviews that break Amazon’s Community Guidelines

This distinction is the key to most removal requests. A buyer who writes “the zipper broke after a week” in seller feedback has written a product review in the wrong place, and that is one of the few grounds Amazon accepts.

When Amazon will remove seller feedback

Amazon’s criteria for seller feedback removal are narrow. In general terms, Amazon removes feedback when:

  • It contains obscene or profane language. Words commonly understood as obscene, not just harsh criticism.
  • It contains personal information. Such as a seller’s or buyer’s email address, full name or phone number.
  • The entire comment is a product review. If every sentence is about the product and none is about your service, it qualifies. If the buyer also complains about slow shipping or poor communication, it usually doesn’t.

For orders fulfilled by Amazon, feedback that is entirely about delivery or fulfillment is handled differently. Amazon typically strikes it through and adds a note that the item was fulfilled by Amazon and Amazon takes responsibility for the fulfillment experience, so it no longer counts against you.

Negative feedback that is honest, rude or unfair but doesn’t meet these criteria stays. “Took two weeks to arrive and the seller never answered my message” is exactly what seller feedback is for.

How to request removal in Seller Central

Amazon adjusts its menus often, so labels may differ slightly, but the process is:

  1. Open Feedback Manager. It sits under the customer or performance section of Seller Central.
  2. Find the feedback. Locate the order in the recent feedback list.
  3. Choose “Request removal”. It appears in the actions for that feedback entry.
  4. Answer the questions accurately. Amazon asks which criterion applies. Pick the one that genuinely fits.
  5. Read the decision. Amazon usually responds quickly. If the request is declined and you believe it was misjudged, you can contact Seller Support with a short, factual explanation.

Request through Feedback Manager rather than other channels, and do it promptly. Amazon limits how long after the feedback you can request removal, so check the current window in Seller Central rather than waiting.

Contacting the buyer the right way

If feedback doesn’t meet the removal criteria, the buyer can still remove it themselves. Amazon lets buyers remove seller feedback within 60 days of leaving it. What you can’t do is ask for that in exchange for anything.

A compliant approach looks like this:

  1. Fix the problem first. Send a replacement, issue a refund under your normal return policy, or answer the question they said was ignored. Do it because it’s the right outcome, not as a trade.
  2. Message through Buyer-Seller Messaging. Keep it short, polite and about their order.
  3. Don’t request removal as part of the fix. Amazon’s rules on buyer messaging and reviews prohibit asking customers to remove or change feedback in exchange for compensation, and a message that links a refund to feedback can read as exactly that. Keep any mention of feedback out of the message that offers a remedy.
  4. Leave the decision with the buyer. Plenty of buyers remove or update negative feedback on their own once a problem is solved. Some don’t, and that is their right.

An example message, for illustration only:

Hello, I’m sorry your order arrived with a cracked lid. That shouldn’t have happened, and I’ve arranged a replacement at no cost, which should reach you by Friday. There’s no need to return the damaged one. If anything else about this order isn’t right, please reply here and I’ll sort it out. Daniel, Customer Service

That message solves the problem and stops there. It doesn’t mention feedback, offer anything conditional, or ask for a rating.

Worked example: three negative feedback entries

This is an illustrative scenario, not a real client.

A seller of kitchen storage products gets three one-star feedback entries in a week:

  • Entry A: “Lids don’t seal properly, cheap plastic.” Every word is about the product. The seller requests removal under the product review criterion, and it is a strong candidate.
  • Entry B: “Box was crushed and arrived late.” The order was fulfilled by Amazon. The seller requests removal as a fulfillment issue, expecting the strike-through note rather than deletion.
  • Entry C: “Wrong color sent and the seller took four days to reply.” This one is about the seller’s own service. It doesn’t qualify for removal. The seller sends the correct color, apologizes for the slow reply, and says nothing about feedback. The buyer may or may not update it.

The seller also notices that entry A matches a theme in recent product reviews. The real fix is a supplier conversation about lid quality, because no removal process will stop the next complaint.

Why you can’t remove genuine negative product reviews

Product reviews belong to the product page, and Amazon treats them as the customer’s opinion. You can report a product review that breaks Amazon’s Community Guidelines, for example one that contains hateful or obscene content, promotional links, personal information, or clear signs of manipulation such as a competitor’s review. You can’t get an honest one-star review removed because it is harsh, unfair or bad for sales.

Amazon’s anti-manipulation rules also prohibit asking reviewers to change or remove reviews, compensating anyone for creating, editing or removing a review, and diverting unhappy customers to a private feedback channel while sending happy ones to Amazon. That last practice is known as review gating, and our guide on what review gating is explains why it’s banned across platforms.

The same logic applies to buying reviews, which carries platform and legal risk. Our guides on buying reviews and the FTC’s fake review rule explain why.

Using Amazon’s “Request a Review” button

The compliant way to improve your ratings is to get more feedback from typical customers, not fewer negative entries. Amazon’s “Request a Review” button, on the order details page in Seller Central, sends the buyer a standard message asking for both a product review and seller feedback.

  • Amazon writes and translates the message, so you can’t customize it or steer the buyer toward a positive rating.
  • Each order can receive one request, and only within a window after delivery that Amazon sets.
  • Use it consistently, for every eligible order, rather than only for orders you think went well. Choosing only happy customers undermines the point and runs into the same gating problem.

Some sellers automate the button through approved tools. That’s fine as long as it applies to all eligible orders.

Common mistakes

  • Requesting removal for every negative entry. Stick to feedback that meets the criteria. Repeated weak requests waste time.
  • Offering a refund “if you update your feedback”. This is the single fastest way to turn a feedback problem into an account health problem.
  • Arguing in a public reply. Where Amazon allows a public seller response, keep it short and factual.
  • Ignoring the pattern. If several entries mention packaging or late dispatch, fix the process. Removal handles individual entries; operations fix the rating.

Frequently asked questions

Can I remove negative seller feedback on Amazon?

Only in limited cases. Amazon removes seller feedback that contains obscene language or personal information, or that is entirely a product review, and it marks fulfillment complaints on Fulfilled by Amazon orders as its own responsibility. Otherwise only the buyer can remove it.

How long does a buyer have to remove seller feedback?

Amazon lets buyers remove seller feedback within 60 days of leaving it. After that, it generally stays unless Amazon removes it for breaking its rules.

Can I offer a refund if the buyer removes their feedback?

No. Amazon prohibits compensation of any kind in exchange for removing or changing feedback or reviews, and it can suspend accounts that do it. Offer the refund on its own merits and don’t mention feedback.

Can I get a bad product review removed from Amazon?

Only if it breaks Amazon’s Community Guidelines, such as reviews with obscene content, personal information or signs of manipulation. Report it through Amazon. Honest negative product reviews stay, even if you disagree with them.

Does the Request a Review button ask for positive reviews?

No. It sends a standard Amazon message asking for a product review and seller feedback, and you can’t edit the wording. Use it for every eligible order, not just the ones you expect to go well.
