To cancel Aura, log in to your Aura account and cancel your subscription there, or call the phone number shown in your account dashboard. Aura’s terms say you must cancel at least one day before your next billing cycle starts, and your plan stays active until the end of the current cycle. If you bought an annual plan directly from Aura, you can also ask for a refund within 60 days by calling Aura’s support line. Monthly plans don’t qualify.

This guide covers the steps, the free trial deadline, the refund rules, what changes if you got Aura through your employer or another company, what happens to your data removal and personal data, and how to stay protected afterward. It’s based on Aura’s service terms (last updated September 17, 2026, effective October 1, 2026), its 60-day money-back guarantee page (last updated June 2, 2026), its pricing page and its privacy policy, all checked in September 2026. Terms change, so check the current versions.

First, check how you signed up for Aura

How you enrolled decides how you cancel and whether you can get money back. Aura’s terms describe several routes:

How you got Aura How to cancel Refunds
Bought directly on Aura’s website or by phone In your Aura account, or by phone 60-day money-back on annual plans only
Free trial Through your Aura dashboard, at least 24 hours before the trial ends The 60 days count from your trial sign-up date
Employer benefit, paid by payroll deduction Contact your employer Between you and your employer
Employer-paid benefit or Aura for Business Per your employer’s program No refund for what the employer paid
Another reseller, app store or retailer (including Amazon) With that company Aura’s guarantee doesn’t apply; the reseller decides

Your bank or card statement and your sign-up email will usually tell you which applies.

How to cancel Aura step by step

Aura’s service terms give two ways to cancel: by logging into your account, or by contacting Aura on the phone number in your account dashboard. Aura doesn’t accept cancellations by postal mail. We’ve kept the steps general, because screens change.

  1. Log in to your Aura account on the website or app.
  2. Find your subscription or billing settings. Look for your plan details, billing or subscription options. If you can’t see a cancel option, use the phone route.
  3. Cancel the subscription and confirm. Save the confirmation email or take a screenshot.
  4. Or call Aura. Use the phone number in your dashboard. Aura’s refund page lists 1-833-552-2123 for refund requests, and its privacy policy describes that line as its support team, available 24/7.
  5. If you want a refund, ask for it on the same call. Aura’s refund page says refunds under the 60-day guarantee are requested by calling that number.

According to the terms, once you cancel, your recurring fees stop and your subscription stays active only until the end of the current billing cycle. Aura says it has no obligation to refund you for canceling early, apart from the money-back guarantee described below.

Canceling during Aura’s free trial

As of September 2026, Aura’s pricing page offers a 14-day free trial on its plans, redeemable once per customer. Its service terms say:

  • You may need to enter billing information to start the trial, but you won’t be charged until it ends.
  • To avoid being charged, cancel through your Aura dashboard at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
  • If you don’t cancel in time, you’re automatically charged for the plan you chose.

If you did get charged after a trial on an annual plan, the refund rules still help: Aura’s refund page says the 60-day window runs from the date you signed up for the trial.

Aura’s refund rules (as of September 2026)

Aura’s 60-day money-back guarantee page and service terms set out the conditions:

  • Annual plans only. The guarantee applies to annual plans bought through Aura’s websites or its customer support team. Monthly subscriptions don’t qualify.
  • Direct purchases only. It excludes Amazon and anything bought from or billed through a third party, such as an app store, service provider or retailer.
  • 60 days from purchase. You cancel online and request the refund by calling Aura within 60 days of being charged for an eligible purchase.
  • Trials count from sign-up. If you started with a free trial, the 60 days run from your trial sign-up date.
  • Plan switches. If you moved to a new annual plan within 60 days of your first annual subscription, Aura says you may still qualify, based on the original purchase date.
  • Renewals. Later annual renewal payments don’t qualify for a full refund.

Outside the guarantee, the terms say amounts paid are non-refundable unless Aura expressly says otherwise. Check Aura’s current refund page before you call.

If you got Aura through your employer or a reseller

Aura is also offered as a workplace benefit, and Aura’s terms treat these differently from direct purchases:

  • Paid through payroll deduction: you must contact your employer to cancel, and any refund is between you and your employer.
  • Paid by your employer: there’s no refund to you for what the employer paid. If you bought extras by credit card, Aura says those aren’t refunded either. The service stays available until the last day of the current month’s billing cycle.
  • Paid directly by you under an employer enrollment program: no refunds, with access until the end of the current month’s billing cycle.
  • Other reseller programs: Aura doesn’t provide refunds. Contact the reseller, since any refund is between you and them.

If you pay through an app store, cancel the subscription through that store’s own subscription settings. Deleting the app on its own isn’t the same as canceling.

What happens to your data removal when Aura ends

Aura’s data removal page says it sends opt-out requests to 425+ data broker sites, re-scans daily and re-submits requests if your data reappears. It also says some brokers may refuse or delay removal, or add your data back later. Once your subscription ends, that daily re-checking stops.

  • Removals already done stay with the brokers. Whether they stay done depends on each broker.
  • Relisting is likely over time. Brokers buy and refresh data, so plan to check the main people search sites yourself every few months.
  • Other features stop too. Aura’s adult plans bundle credit monitoring, an Experian credit lock, a VPN, antivirus, a password manager and identity theft insurance. Before you cancel, export anything you need, such as saved passwords, and set up free replacements for the rest.

Our guide to whether data removal services are worth it explains why no paid service can keep you off every site for good.

How to ask Aura to delete your personal data

Canceling your subscription doesn’t erase what Aura holds. Its privacy policy (last updated September 17, 2026) says:

  • Aura keeps personal data as long as it’s needed to provide the services, or as long as you have an account, and may keep some data for legal reasons, abuse prevention or defending legal claims. Copies may sit in backups for a limited period.
  • US customers can ask Aura to erase or delete all or some of their personal data. Aura may ask you to verify your identity through your dashboard or its Your Privacy Choices page.
  • People in the UK, EEA, Switzerland or Australia can submit requests through Aura’s Privacy Portal or by phone.
  • For privacy questions or complaints, the policy lists privacy@aura.com, as well as its Privacy Portal.
  • Residents of several states, including Texas and Virginia, can appeal a denied request through the Privacy Portal.

A short email is enough to start:

Subject: Deletion request. I have canceled my Aura subscription for the account registered to [email address]. Under [the CCPA / my state’s privacy law / the GDPR], please delete the personal information you hold about me, and confirm when this is done and what, if anything, you must keep.

Common mistakes when canceling Aura

  • Trying to cancel by letter. Aura’s terms say it doesn’t accept cancellations by postal mail.
  • Missing the trial cutoff. It’s at least 24 hours before the trial ends, not the last day.
  • Expecting a refund on a monthly plan. The 60-day guarantee covers annual plans bought directly.
  • Canceling with Aura when your employer pays. Payroll-deduction plans are canceled through your employer.
  • Losing your passwords. If you use Aura’s password manager, move your passwords somewhere else before access ends.

If you’re charged after canceling

Call Aura first with your cancellation confirmation and ask for the charge to be reversed. If that doesn’t work, ask your card issuer about a dispute. The FTC explains that the Fair Credit Billing Act sets out a dispute process for credit card billing errors, and that your letter should reach the issuer within 60 days after the first bill with the error was sent. Keep that as a last resort and keep records of every contact. If you’re unsure, ask your card issuer or a consumer lawyer. This isn’t legal advice.

Staying protected after you cancel Aura

Our products don’t do credit monitoring, identity theft insurance or breach monitoring, so start with the free official tools:

  • Freeze your credit. The FTC says credit freezes are free, don’t affect your credit score and last until you lift them. Contact Equifax, Experian and TransUnion separately. This replaces the single-bureau lock Aura provided.
  • Check your credit reports through annualcreditreport.com, and report identity theft at IdentityTheft.gov if it happens.
  • Remove yourself from data brokers manually. Our data broker opt-out list and our guide to removing yourself from people search sites cover the main sites. Listings reappear, some sites ignore requests and public records stay public, so re-check regularly.
  • Keep an eye on your search results. Our free Reputation Scanner is launching soon. It’s a self-search tool that will find harmful results about you and draft removal requests you review and send yourself, with no account and no billing.

If you’re switching rather than leaving altogether, our Aura alternatives guide compares the main options, and Aura pricing sets out what each plan costs if you’re thinking of changing plans instead. For problems that go beyond data brokers, such as harmful articles or posts, our personal reputation management team can review your situation through a free audit.
