How to Delete Your Hinge Account (or Pause It Instead)

To delete your Hinge account, open the app, go to Settings, open your account settings and choose the option to delete your account. If you have a Hinge subscription through the App Store or Google Play, cancel it there first, because deleting the account may not stop the payments. Uninstalling the app doesn’t delete anything: your profile can keep appearing to others until you delete or pause it.

Hinge profiles tend to say more about you than other apps, with prompts, voice notes and detailed answers. That makes it worth leaving carefully. This guide covers the steps, the pause option and what to do about anything that’s already been shared.

Pause, delete or uninstall: which do you need?

Hinge built its brand on being “designed to be deleted”, and plenty of people leave because things went well. If you’ve just started seeing someone and it’s early days, pausing is a sensible middle step. It’s also a kinder option than deleting mid-conversation if you still want to say goodbye to a match or two.

If you’ve decided you’re done, there’s no need to justify it. Delete, and don’t feel obliged to explain to anyone.

Before you delete

1. Cancel your subscription in the right place. If you subscribed on an iPhone, cancel in your Apple ID subscription settings. On Android, cancel in Google Play. If you paid another way, follow Hinge’s help center instructions. Check that the subscription shows as canceled before moving on.
2. Download your data if you want a copy. Hinge offers a way to request your data from within the app’s account settings or through its privacy pages. The export can include your profile, prompts, matches and messages. Wait until it arrives and open it to check it works.
3. Save evidence if a match crossed a line. If someone harassed, threatened or tried to scam you, screenshot their profile and messages and report them in the app before you delete. Once your account is gone, the conversation goes with it.
4. Say goodbye if you want to. A short message to a match you’ve been talking to is courteous: “I’ve met someone and I’m leaving the app. Take care, and good luck.” It’s optional.
5. Review what you shared outside the app. Phone numbers, Instagram handles and workplaces stay with people after you delete. Decide whether anything needs changing.

How to delete your Hinge account

Hinge changes its menus from time to time, so these steps are general. The in-app help will show current wording.

1. Open Hinge and sign in to the account you want to remove.
2. Go to the settings area, usually reached from your profile tab.
3. Open your account settings and choose the option to delete your account.
4. Hinge may suggest pausing instead. If you’re leaving for good, carry on.
5. Choose a reason if asked and confirm.

Then check your App Store or Google Play subscriptions one more time, sign out and uninstall the app. If you can’t sign in to delete, for example because you’ve lost access to the phone number on the account, use Hinge’s official help center to contact support. Don’t respond to anyone offering paid “account removal” in comments or messages.

If you can’t get into your account

Hinge accounts are usually tied to a phone number, and sometimes to an Apple, Google or Facebook login. If you’ve changed numbers or lost the phone, deleting can stall.

• Try every login method you might have used. Many people forget they signed up with a social login years ago.
• Contact Hinge support through its official help center. Explain that you’ve lost access and want the account deleted. Support may ask you to confirm details to prove the account is yours.
• Cancel billing anyway. Even if you can’t sign in to Hinge, you can cancel the subscription in your App Store or Google Play account, which stops the charges while support deals with the rest.

If you think someone else has taken over your account, treat it as a security problem first. Change your email password, check your phone carrier account for unauthorized changes and then contact Hinge.

What stays after you delete

Deleting takes your profile out of the app. Your photos, prompts and conversations should no longer be visible to matches. But a few things stay:

• Data the company keeps. Dating companies usually retain some information for a period after deletion, for legal, safety and fraud reasons. Hinge’s privacy policy explains what and how long. • Screenshots. Hinge prompts are very quotable, and people share funny or memorable ones with friends and online. You can’t recall these.
• Copies of your photos. If your profile photos also appear on public social media, anyone can connect them to your name.
• Your subscription, if you didn’t cancel it through the store.

If your profile has been shared elsewhere

Most people never have a problem. But if a friend mentions seeing your prompts on social media, or you’re worried a match has passed your details around, here’s how to check and respond.

2. Search a distinctive prompt answer in quotation marks. If someone posted it publicly, an exact-phrase search may find it.
3. Ask for removal politely. If a screenshot of your profile is posted on a social platform with your face or name visible, most platforms let you report content that shares your private information or harasses you. A friendly direct message to the poster can also work.
4. Report fake profiles. If someone has used your photos to create a profile, report it to the app it’s on.

A worked example

This scenario is illustrative, not a real client. Priya used Hinge for a year and started seeing someone seriously. She wanted to leave, but one prompt answer had been screenshotted and posted to a humor account on social media with her first photo visible.

1. She canceled her subscription through Google Play and confirmed it showed as canceled.
2. She downloaded her Hinge data and saved the export.
3. She reported the social media post as sharing her image without consent and messaged the account owner. The owner cropped out her photo.
4. She deleted her Hinge account and ran a reverse image search on her profile photos. Nothing else came up, so she stopped there.

Common mistakes

• Uninstalling without deleting or pausing. Your profile may keep appearing.
• Deleting first, canceling later. Billing through the store can continue after deletion.
