Zander identity theft protection is a recovery-first service from Zander Insurance, which is based in Tennessee. It sells two plans, Essential and Elite, each for one adult or a family, and its plan documents list up to $1 million (individual) or $2 million (family) for stolen funds and expenses, plus unlimited recovery help from a case manager if your identity is stolen. It suits people who mainly want someone to do the cleanup. It’s a weaker fit if you want three-bureau credit reports and scores, or data broker removal, since the plan lists we found don’t include either.

This is a research-based review. We haven’t used a Zander account. Zander’s own website blocked our research tools in September 2026, so every fact below comes from Zander’s own plan tables, terms and conditions, reimbursement benefits and benefits description, as published on Ramsey Solutions’ ID theft protection page (ramseysolutions.com/insurance/id-theft-protection). Plans and prices change, so check Zander’s site for the current details before you buy.

Quick verdict

Zander may suit you if Look elsewhere if
You’re in the US and mainly want hands-on help restoring your identity if it’s stolen You want three-bureau credit reports and a monthly credit score in the plan
You want a family plan that covers two adults plus children and adult dependents You want your details removed from people-search sites
You’d like a simple two-tier choice rather than a long feature menu You want a published money-back window longer than 14 days
You already use Ramsey Solutions’ recommendations and want its endorsed provider You want to compare prices on a page we could verify (we couldn’t confirm Zander’s)

What Zander identity theft protection is

The service is run by Zander Identity Theft Solutions, part of Zander Insurance. Its terms say the service is performed through Zander Insurance’s headquarters in Tennessee.

Many people find Zander through Ramsey Solutions. Ramsey’s ID theft page calls Zander its RamseyTrusted provider and, in Ramsey’s own words, “the only company we recommend for identity theft protection.” That’s Ramsey’s endorsement, not ours and not an independent test, so weigh it the way you’d weigh any referral partnership.

One point worth reading twice: despite the Zander Insurance name, Zander’s documents say “ID Theft Protection is not an insurance product. It is an administrative service that provides identity recovery, reimbursement, monitoring and alert services.” The reimbursement part is backed by an insurance policy, which we cover below, but what you buy is a service membership.

How it works

Zander’s benefits description sets out three parts: monitoring, recovery and reimbursement.

  1. Monitoring and alerts. Both plans include dark web monitoring for your personal information, Social Security number monitoring, change of address monitoring and data breach notifications. The benefits description says monitoring is a tool to help reduce identity theft and doesn’t promise to catch every event.
  2. Recovery. If you become a victim while enrolled, Zander says it assigns a Recovery Advocate to manage your case and writes a Recovery Plan listing what you and its team need to do. With a limited power of attorney from you, its team can notify the three credit bureaus and place fraud alerts, contact affected creditors, government agencies, the IRS and medical providers, and work to restore your credit file. Your cooperation with the plan is a condition of that help continuing.
  3. Reimbursement. Eligible expenses and stolen funds are reimbursed up to the plan limit, under an insurance policy with its own conditions and exclusions.

Both plans also include a lost wallet service, which helps you cancel and replace cards and IDs, and 24/7/365 customer support and recovery services. Ramsey’s page adds that Zander’s US-based team is available around the clock to help subscribers work out whether a suspicious message is a scam.

Coverage: Essential vs Elite

This comparison comes from the plan tables published on Ramsey Solutions’ page in September 2026.

Feature Essential Elite
Stolen funds and expenses Up to $1 million (individual) or $2 million (family) Same
Unlimited recovery services Yes Yes
Dark web, SSN and change of address monitoring Yes Yes
Data breach notifications and lost wallet service Yes Yes
Home title monitoring No Yes
Bank and retirement account monitoring No Yes
Debit card, credit card and loan transaction monitoring No Yes
Account takeover and new account monitoring No Yes
UltraVPN and UltraAV antivirus No Yes
Experian CreditLock and a password manager No Yes

Who a family plan covers. The family plan covers any two adults. Zander’s benefits description says children up to 18 get Social Security and personal information monitoring, recovery, reimbursement and wallet protection. Adult dependents up to 26 get recovery, reimbursement and wallet protection only, without monitoring.

What isn’t listed. Neither plan table lists three-bureau credit monitoring, credit reports or a credit score. Elite’s Experian CreditLock lets you lock one bureau file, which is different from monitoring all three. Neither table lists data broker or people-search removal either.

How the reimbursement works

Zander’s reimbursement benefits document names Interstate Fire & Casualty Company as the insurer, and its benefits description refers to coverage issued by Allianz. We’re describing the coverage only as those documents state it. It isn’t advice on whether it fits your situation, and the actual policy terms decide any claim.

  • What it can cover. Costs such as refiling rejected credit applications, notarizing documents, postage and travel to report the fraud, credit freeze and thaw costs, court filing fees, lost base wages for time taken off work to fix records, and child or elder care costs caused by that time.
  • Legal costs. Attorney fees for defending collection actions or wrongly entered judgments, and for challenging credit report errors. An attorney you choose yourself is covered up to $125 an hour unless the insurer preapproves more.
  • Stolen funds. Unauthorized electronic transfers are reimbursed only for amounts your bank didn’t cover. You must seek reimbursement from the bank first.
  • Deadlines and paperwork. The benefits description says you must report an identity theft event within 60 days of discovering it. Claims involving a crime need a police report, and you file proof of loss with receipts.
  • Exclusions. These include losses from business activities, losses caused by a family member’s fraud, and loss that occurred while you weren’t enrolled. The coverage also sits on top of any other insurance or reimbursement you have.

Our guide to identity theft insurance explains how these policies typically work and why “up to” limits aren’t a promised payout.

Zander pricing, renewals and refunds (as of September 2026)

We couldn’t confirm Zander’s prices. Its website blocked our research tools, and the Ramsey Solutions pages we could read show the plans without prices. Check Zander’s site for current prices for Essential and Elite, individual and family, monthly and annual.

The terms we could read do set out how billing, renewal and cancellation work:

  • Automatic renewal. Monthly and annual memberships renew automatically until you contact Zander to end them, or until your payment method stops working.
  • 14-day refund. If you cancel within 14 days of your start date and before using the recovery service, Zander’s benefits description says you get a full refund.
  • After 14 days. There’s no refund, but billing stops. An annual membership stays valid for the rest of its 12 months. Zander’s older general terms (effective September 22, 2017) carry separate refund wording, so confirm the current cancellation terms with Zander before you buy.
  • Price at renewal. The terms say monthly, annual and renewal fees are billed at the rate agreed at purchase.
  • How to cancel. The terms say to contact Zander Identity Theft Solutions by phone or email to close your account. Once canceled, you lose access to the service.

Pros and cons

Pros Cons
Unlimited recovery services with an assigned case manager on both plans No three-bureau credit monitoring or credit score listed on either plan
Up to $1 million (individual) or $2 million (family) for stolen funds and expenses No data broker or people-search removal listed
Family plan includes children, plus adult dependents up to 26 for recovery Only a 14-day refund window, and only if you haven’t used recovery
Simple two-tier structure; Elite adds account, title and device protection Prices weren’t verifiable for us; check Zander’s site
Lost wallet help and 24/7 support on both tiers Disputes go to arbitration under Zander’s terms

Privacy and trust considerations

  • Credit file access. By accepting Zander’s terms, you give written instructions allowing it and the national credit bureaus to access your credit files and exchange information about you to verify your identity and provide the service.
  • Data sharing. The terms say that, depending on the service, Zander may share your name, email address and Social Security number with third parties that perform services for it, as described in its privacy policy.
  • Arbitration. Its terms send disputes to confidential arbitration under American Arbitration Association rules, governed by Tennessee law, with the filing fee split equally. Read that section before you sign up.
  • Endorsement. Ramsey Solutions endorses Zander; that’s Ramsey’s statement, not an independent review. Compare it on features and terms, as you would any other service.

A worked example

This is an illustrative scenario, not a real client.

Loretta and her husband listen to a personal finance show and hear Zander recommended. They have two teenagers and a 23-year-old son still on their family budget.

  1. They freeze their credit at all three bureaus first, for free.
  2. They look at the family plan: it covers both of them, gives the teenagers monitoring and recovery, and gives their 23-year-old recovery and reimbursement without monitoring.
  3. They notice neither plan lists three-bureau credit monitoring, so they decide to pull their free reports at annualcreditreport.com a few times a year.
  4. They check Zander’s site for current prices and compare Essential with Elite. Since Loretta already uses a password manager and antivirus, the account and title monitoring are the main reasons to choose Elite.
  5. They note the 14-day refund window and set a reminder before it closes.

Alternatives to Zander

Our free options first

123 Reputation Management doesn’t offer credit monitoring, identity theft insurance, breach monitoring or recovery services. What we offer covers a gap Zander’s plan lists leave open: your personal details showing up online.

Another paid option: Aura

If you want credit monitoring and data broker removal in the same subscription, Aura bundles both. As of September 2026, Aura’s pricing page lists its Individual plan at $12 a month billed annually or $15 billed monthly, with $1 million in identity theft insurance per adult, a 14-day free trial and a 60-day money-back offer on annual plans. See our Aura review, or compare more services in our roundup of the best identity theft protection.

Keep the limits in mind whichever you choose. Removal services can’t remove everything: listings reappear, some sites ignore requests, and public records stay public. Our guides on whether data removal services are worth it and how data broker removal services work explain why.

When the problem is your search results

Zander deals with fraud committed in your name. It won’t do anything about a news article, a review or a post that shows up when someone searches for you. If that’s the problem, our personal reputation management service starts with a free audit. If your identity has already been stolen, start with our step-by-step guide on what to do if your identity is stolen.

Frequently asked questions

Is Zander identity theft protection insurance?

Not exactly. Zander’s documents, published on Ramsey Solutions’ site, say its ID theft protection “is not an insurance product” but an administrative service providing recovery, reimbursement, monitoring and alerts. The reimbursement part is backed by an insurance policy; its documents name Interstate Fire & Casualty Company and refer to coverage issued by Allianz.

What is the difference between Zander Essential and Elite?

Both include unlimited recovery, dark web, SSN and change of address monitoring, breach notifications, lost wallet help and the same reimbursement limits. Elite adds home title, bank and retirement account, card and loan transaction, account takeover and new account monitoring, plus UltraVPN, UltraAV, Experian CreditLock and a password manager.

Does Zander include credit monitoring?

The plan tables we reviewed in September 2026 don’t list three-bureau credit monitoring or a credit score on either plan. Elite includes Experian CreditLock. You can check your own reports for free at annualcreditreport.com.

Can I get a refund from Zander?

Zander’s cancellation terms say you get a full refund if you cancel within 14 days of your start date and before using the recovery service. After that there’s no refund, but billing stops, and an annual membership runs to the end of its 12 months.

Why does Dave Ramsey recommend Zander?

In its own words, Ramsey Solutions calls Zander its RamseyTrusted provider and says it recommends plans with unlimited recovery services. That’s Ramsey’s endorsement, not ours, so compare Zander’s features and terms with other services before deciding.
