How to Delete Your Epic Games Account (Fortnite, V-Bucks and Consoles)

To delete an Epic Games account, sign in on Epic’s website, open your account settings and find the option to delete your account, then confirm with the code Epic sends to your email. Deleting permanently removes your Fortnite progress and cosmetics, your V-Bucks balance, games in your Epic library and your friends list, across every platform linked to that account. Cancel Fortnite Crew or any other subscription first, and check your linked PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo or other accounts before you confirm.

For many families this is less about privacy than about a teen who has moved on, or a parent worried about who their child talks to. For others it’s about an old account after a hack. This guide covers the steps and, just as important, what you’ll lose.

What you lose when you delete

This is the part people most often regret, so it’s worth reading before anything else.

• Fortnite items and progress. Skins, emotes, battle pass progress and Save the World progress are tied to your Epic account, not to the console.
• V-Bucks. Any balance is gone. V-Bucks bought on a console may be tied to that platform’s store, but they sit on your Epic account and aren’t returned when it’s deleted.
• Your game library. Games you bought or claimed free on the Epic Games Store go with the account, as does progress stored in the cloud.
• Other Epic games. Rocket League, Fall Guys and other titles that use your Epic login can lose progress and items linked to it.
• Friends, display name and parties. Your friends list goes, and your display name may later become available to others.

Purchases are generally not refunded when you delete. If you think you’re owed a refund for a particular purchase, ask Epic’s support before deleting, not after.

Before you delete

1. Cancel subscriptions. Fortnite Crew and other recurring purchases may be billed through Epic, a console store or a mobile app store. Cancel wherever you signed up. Deleting the Epic account may not stop a console subscription.
2. Review linked accounts. In your Epic account settings, look at the connected accounts section to see which PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, Steam or other accounts are linked. Your console accounts themselves aren’t deleted, but their link to Epic ends.

4. Make sure you can get the email. Epic sends a security code to the email on the account to confirm deletion. If you no longer have that inbox, update it first or contact Epic’s support.
5. Remove payment methods. Taking saved cards off the account first is tidy and reduces risk if anything goes wrong.
6. Check you’re deleting the right account. Many people have more than one Epic account, for example one made on a Switch and another on a PC. Confirm the display name and linked platforms.

How to delete your Epic Games account

Epic changes its account pages from time to time, so these steps are general. Its help center shows the current route.

1. Go to Epic’s website in a browser and sign in.
2. Open your account settings, usually from your display name at the top of the page.
3. Look in the general account settings for the option to delete your account.
4. Epic emails a security code. Enter it to confirm.
5. Epic explains how long it will take to process. Don’t sign in during that time if you want the deletion to go ahead, because signing in may cancel it.

Deleting or unlinking a console account

Sometimes the real goal is to separate a console from an Epic account rather than delete it.

A guide for parents

Epic has specific protections for younger players. Under-13 accounts, and players below the digital consent age in their country, can be set up with restricted features until a parent gives consent. The FTC’s 2022 settlement with Epic over children’s privacy and in-game purchases led to changes in its default settings for young players, including voice and text chat.

• If your child should keep playing, Epic’s parental controls let you manage chat, friend requests, spending and playtime with a parental PIN. That may be better than deleting. See our overview of parental controls.
• If you want the account gone, sign in to the child’s account and delete it the same way, or contact Epic’s support and privacy team if you can’t access it. You may be asked to confirm you’re the parent.

What stays after deletion

• Your console accounts. PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo accounts are separate and keep their own data and purchase history.

A worked example

This scenario is illustrative, not a real client. Jordan, 16, has stopped playing Fortnite and wants a fresh start with a new console. His dad also wants to be sure old strangers on the friends list can’t reach him.

1. They check the account together and find Fortnite Crew is still billing through the console store. They cancel it there.
2. They remove the saved card from the Epic account and confirm the email address still works.
3. Jordan decides he doesn’t care about his skins. They delete the account from Epic’s website and enter the email code.
4. On the new console, Jordan’s dad sets up parental controls and chat limits from the start.

Common mistakes

• Deleting the wrong account. Check the display name and linked platforms first.
• Expecting a refund. Deleting doesn’t return V-Bucks or purchases.
• Forgetting console subscriptions. Cancel Fortnite Crew where you subscribed.
• Signing back in too soon. Signing in during the processing period may cancel the deletion.
• Deleting when unlinking would do. If you only want to change consoles, unlink instead.
