A piece of wood floating on calm blue water

Incogni vs Optery comes down to where you live and how much you want to see before you pay. Incogni is a simple, automated service with four plans, covering 420+ data brokers and serving the EU, the UK, Canada and the US, according to its terms. Optery has a free tier, a cheaper entry plan, screenshot reports on its higher plans, and a pricing page for the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. If you’re in Europe, Incogni is the natural fit. If you want to see your exposure for free first, or you’re in Australia or New Zealand, look at Optery.

This comparison is research-based. We read both companies’ pricing, terms and about pages in September 2026. We haven’t held an account with either and we don’t give star ratings. Whichever order you search, Optery vs Incogni or Incogni vs Optery, the facts below are the same.

How each service works

Incogni

You give Incogni the details you want removed, and it uses privacy laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA to send requests to the brokers on its list, then keeps re-sending them. For people-search sites it scans for your data; for brokers with private databases it sends opt-out requests periodically based on details like your region. Its pricing page says some requests take more than 30 days. Incogni was started by the Surfshark team in September 2021 and says it is SOC 2 Type II audited.

Optery

You can start on the Free Basic plan, which shows where your profiles appear, with screenshots, and gives you self-service tools to opt out yourself. Paid plans remove automatically: Core runs monthly automated scans and removals with no human agent, while Extended and Ultimate add a human privacy agent for special cases. Optery says it is SOC 2 Type II certified and is a Delaware C corporation headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area. Its “Expanded Reach” setting raises the number of sites covered, so check that it’s on if coverage matters to you.

Where each is stronger

Where Incogni is stronger

  • Europe and the UK. Its terms list the EU, the UK and several other European countries. Optery’s pricing page doesn’t list them.
  • No tier puzzle. Every Incogni plan covers the same 420+ brokers, so the choice is only about custom removals and family size.
  • Multiple details on the entry plan. Standard handles multiple emails, addresses and phone numbers. Optery Core is limited to one name and one city and state.
  • Custom removal pool. Unlimited plans cover 3,000+ additional sites.

Where Optery is stronger

  • A real free tier. You can see your exposure, with screenshots, without a card.
  • Lowest entry price. Core is $39 a year, if one name and one location covers you.
  • Proof. Screenshot reports on Extended and Ultimate let you check the work.
  • Search engine clean-up. Ultimate includes outdated-content submissions to Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo and Yahoo.
  • Countries Incogni doesn’t list. Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

What neither service can do

Both work on data brokers and people-search sites. Listings reappear when brokers buy fresh data, so removal is ongoing. Some sites ignore requests or ask you to verify yourself. Public records such as court dockets and property files stay public. Neither is designed to remove a news article, a review or a social media post. Our guides on how data broker removal services work and whether data removal services are worth it explain these limits.

How to choose between Incogni and Optery

  1. Start with your country. In Europe or the UK, Incogni is the one whose terms cover you. In Australia, New Zealand or South Africa, Optery’s pricing page does.
  2. Count your names and addresses. If you’ve moved or use a maiden name, Optery Core’s one-name, one-city limit may miss listings. Price Extended, or Incogni Standard.
  3. Decide whether you need custom removals. For a site outside the automated lists, you need Incogni Unlimited or Optery Ultimate.
  4. Price the household. Incogni’s Family plans have fixed prices for up to five people. Optery discounts family accounts by up to 30% as you add people.
  5. Use the refund window. Both offer 30 days. Check your baseline sites within that time.

A worked example

This is an illustrative scenario, not a real client.

Hannah lives in Toronto, where both services are available. She has used two surnames and lived in three cities in ten years.

She signs up for Optery’s free plan to see her exposure and finds listings under both surnames and two of her old cities. Optery Core wouldn’t cover them all, because it’s limited to one name and one city. She compares Optery Extended ($149 a year) with Incogni Standard ($95.88 a year), which handles multiple addresses. She values the screenshot reports but decides the lower price wins for now. She keeps Optery’s free report as her baseline and checks it against Incogni’s monthly progress report before the 30-day refund window ends.

The free alternative to Incogni and Optery

  • Do the opt-outs yourself. Our data broker opt-out list and our guide to removing yourself from people-search sites cover the main brokers for free, with site guides such as the Whitepages opt-out.
  • State tools. Californians can send one deletion request to registered data brokers through the DROP platform under the California Delete Act.
  • Our free Reputation Scanner, launching soon. It’s our own tool and isn’t live yet. It will be free to use, with no account and no billing: you search for yourself, it shows the top 10 negative results ranked by seriousness and how likely they are to be about you, and it drafts removal requests, including for personal information or doxxing, that you review and send yourself. It isn’t a broker subscription. See the Reputation Scanner page.

Our products don’t do credit monitoring, identity theft insurance or breach monitoring; they cover the search-result side described above. For more on each service, read our Incogni review and Optery review, or see the full field in our best data removal services roundup. If your problem is a news story or a post rather than a listing, our content removal service starts with a free audit.
