How to Cancel Intelius: Subscriptions, One-Time Reports and Your Data

To cancel Intelius, first check whether you have a recurring subscription or just paid for a one-time report. A one-time purchase has nothing to cancel. For a subscription bought on intelius.com, sign in and use the membership or billing settings, or ask Intelius customer support to cancel it. For a subscription bought in the Intelius app, cancel in your app store’s subscription settings. Keep the confirmation until the next billing date has passed with no charge.

Canceling doesn’t hide your own record. If you’re on Intelius yourself, suppressing your listing is a separate step through Intelius’s parent company, PeopleConnect. Below we cover both, along with refunds and how to ask Intelius to delete your data. What this guide is based on

We take cancel steps and terms only from a company’s own pages, checked in September 2026. For Intelius:

• PeopleConnect’s own site lists Intelius as one of its people-search brands, with TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate and US Search. PeopleConnect says Intelius was founded in 2003 and offers searches for people, phone numbers, addresses, background checks and criminal records.
• PeopleConnect’s terms of use (last revised November 24, 2025) describe the shared Suppression Tool and say each of its people-search sites has its own terms of use.
• PeopleConnect’s privacy policy (last revised June 30, 2026) says Intelius manages its own privacy policy and lists privacy@intelius.com as its privacy contact.
• The Intelius Search app’s App Store listing (seller Pubrec, LLC) shows the app is free to download, with in-app purchases that include single background checks, report bundles and an “Intelius Premier Subscription”.

Not confirmed: intelius.com refused our standard requests, so we couldn’t read its help center, FAQ, terms or refund policy. We can’t confirm its account menus, phone number, trial terms, refund rules or report access after canceling, and we haven’t guessed. Read Intelius’s current terms before you act.

One-time report or subscription?

Intelius’s app offers both single purchases and subscriptions, and the difference decides what you need to do.

How to cancel an Intelius subscription bought on the website

Because Intelius’s help pages were closed to us, these steps stay general. Follow what your account actually shows.

1. Go to intelius.com directly, not through an ad, and sign in.
2. Open your account and look for membership, subscription or billing settings.
3. Select the option to cancel and keep reading until you see a clear confirmation. If you’re offered a discount or a cheaper plan, decline it unless you want it.
4. If you can’t find a cancel option, contact Intelius customer support using the contact details on Intelius’s own site or in your account. Ask them to cancel and stop automatic renewal, and to confirm in writing.
5. Keep the evidence: a screenshot, the confirmation email and the date.

How to cancel an Intelius subscription bought in the app

If you bought the Intelius Premier Subscription or another plan inside the iPhone app, Apple bills you, so you cancel with Apple.

1. Open your Apple subscription settings.
2. Find the Intelius subscription and cancel it.
3. Note the end date Apple shows.
4. Use Apple’s refund process for any refund request.

On other app stores, cancel in that store’s own subscription settings. Deleting the app never cancels a subscription.

Refunds and saved reports

We couldn’t confirm Intelius’s own refund or report-access rules, so here’s how to get a clear answer:

• Ask support directly whether you qualify for a refund, and ask them to confirm in writing.
• Read the current terms of use on intelius.com for the refund wording that applies when you bought.
• Ask what happens to reports you’ve already run. Plan on losing access once the subscription ends unless support tells you otherwise.
• App purchases: refund requests go to the app store, not to Intelius.

The Intelius app listing also says Intelius doesn’t provide consumer reports and isn’t a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Its products can’t be used to decide eligibility for credit, housing, insurance, employment or other FCRA purposes. If you subscribed to screen tenants or staff, an FCRA-compliant screening company is the right tool.

How to ask Intelius to delete your data

Canceling doesn’t delete the data Intelius holds about you as a customer. For that, send a privacy request. PeopleConnect’s privacy policy lists privacy@intelius.com as Intelius’s privacy contact. Your right to deletion depends on your state’s privacy law. PeopleConnect’s policy for its own site lists residents of California, Colorado, Virginia, Texas and more than a dozen other states, and says it verifies identity before acting and may grant a request in whole, in part or not at all. Check Intelius’s own privacy policy for the rights it offers.

Subject: Subscription cancellation and data deletion. I have canceled my Intelius subscription for the account registered to [email address]. Please confirm the cancellation and that I won’t be charged again. Under [your state’s privacy law / applicable law], please delete the personal information you hold about me as a customer and let me know what you are required to keep. I’m happy to verify my identity.

Your own Intelius listing is a separate job

Intelius builds reports from public and commercial records about people who never signed up. Canceling a subscription has no effect on your own listing.

PeopleConnect’s terms of use describe a Suppression Tool for the people-search sites in the PeopleConnect family, which they say currently include TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate, Intelius and US Search. PeopleConnect’s terms don’t mention a charge for it. Once you suppress your background report, it won’t be available on those sites. To use it, you verify at least one email address or phone number, which also consents to emails or texts from PeopleConnect, so consider using a separate privacy email address.

The terms list the limits too. You may still appear as a relative or associate in other people’s reports, in phone or email reports, or on sex offender registries, and the original public records are unaffected. A worked example

This is an illustrative scenario, not a real client.

Tom used Intelius’s reverse phone lookup in the app to identify a caller. Weeks later he sees two different charges and isn’t sure what he signed up for.

• He searches his email and finds two receipts: a one-time phone report on the website, and a subscription bought through the app.
• The one-time report needs no action. He cancels the app subscription in his Apple subscription settings and saves the confirmation.
• He then searches his own name on Intelius and finds his address and his parents listed. He uses the PeopleConnect Suppression Tool with a separate email address to suppress his record.
• He emails privacy@intelius.com asking for his customer data to be deleted.

Sorting the two receipts first saved Tom from chasing a “subscription” that was really a single purchase, and from missing the real one.

Common mistakes

• Looking for a cancel button for a one-time report. There isn’t a recurring charge to stop.
• Canceling with Intelius when the app store bills you. Cancel where the charge comes from.
• Forgetting the sister sites. A TruthFinder or Instant Checkmate membership is separate and needs its own cancellation.
• Assuming canceling removes your record. Suppression is a separate request.
• Paying a third party to cancel or remove. You can do both yourself, and PeopleConnect’s terms don’t mention a charge for suppression.

If a charge appears after you cancel

Go back to whoever billed you, with the confirmation and the date you canceled, and ask for a reversal. Most errors are fixed at this stage.

If they aren’t, ask your card issuer about a dispute. The FTC explains that the Fair Credit Billing Act gives credit card holders a dispute process for billing errors, with a deadline that runs from the statement showing the error. Use it as a last resort, keep records, and talk to your card issuer or a consumer lawyer if you’re unsure. This is general information, not legal advice.
