The opt-out is free, each listing needs its own request, and most people should check again every few months because new data can create a new profile.

The steps themselves are short. The part people miss is that Spokeo often has more than one profile for the same person, so this guide spends as much time on finding every listing as on removing them. What Spokeo shows and why there may be several listings

Spokeo is a people-search site that combines public records, social media and commercial data into profiles. A free preview typically shows your name, age range, cities you’ve lived in and possible relatives. Paid access unlocks fuller details such as addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and linked social profiles.

Because Spokeo matches records from many sources, it doesn’t always recognize that two records are the same person. A different middle initial, a maiden name, or an address in another state can each produce a separate profile. Each profile has its own URL, and removing one leaves the others untouched.

Step 1: Find every Spokeo profile that’s yours

1. List your identifiers. Write down every version of your name you’ve used, every state you’ve lived in over the last decade or so, and your current and old phone numbers and email addresses.
2. Search by name and state. Search your name on spokeo.com and filter by state. Open any result where the age, cities and relatives match you.
3. Search your name variations. Repeat for your maiden name, nicknames and versions with and without a middle initial.
4. Search by phone and email. Spokeo supports reverse phone and email lookups. These sometimes surface a profile that a name search didn’t.
5. Copy each profile URL. Copy the full address from the browser bar. A Spokeo profile URL typically includes your name, a location and an ID number at the end.

Keep the URLs in a note or spreadsheet with the date. You’ll need them for the opt-out and again when you check it worked.

Step 2: Use the Spokeo opt out page

1. Go to Spokeo’s opt-out page. It’s at spokeo.com/optout. Type it in rather than clicking an ad, so you land on Spokeo’s own domain.
2. Paste one profile URL. Scroll to the section for opting out your listing and paste the exact URL you copied into the URL box.
3. Enter an email address. Spokeo uses it to send the confirmation link. A dedicated address for privacy requests keeps your main inbox out of it.
4. Complete the captcha and submit. If the form rejects your URL, Spokeo’s Help Center suggests trying again in an incognito or private window.
5. Click the confirmation link. Open the email from Spokeo and click the link. Check spam if it doesn’t arrive within a few minutes. The link can expire, so don’t leave it for days.
6. Repeat for each profile. Submit every URL separately, and confirm each email.

Spokeo’s Help Center doesn’t give a processing time that we could confirm, so give it a few days after you click the confirmation link, then reload each saved URL. A removed profile should no longer show your details. If it still does, submit the URL again.

How to remove info from Spokeo, such as an address or phone number

Many people searching for how to remove info from Spokeo only want one detail gone: a home address, a mobile number or an old email. Spokeo doesn’t let you edit a listing line by line. Its Help Center answers for removing a phone number or an address both point back to the same opt-out page, and the opt-out suppresses the whole listing from public view.

So the route is the same whatever detail bothers you. Find every listing that shows it, including reverse phone, email and address searches, and opt each listing out. If an address page lists you as a past resident, opt out your name from that listing the same way.

The opt-out hides the profile from Spokeo’s public search. It isn’t a promise that Spokeo will never compile a new profile from future data. Why Spokeo listings reappear

Spokeo updates its records from outside sources. When something new comes in, such as a new address after a move or a new phone number, it may not attach that to the profile you opted out of. Instead, a new profile can appear with a new URL.

That’s normal for people-search sites, and it’s why a single opt-out rarely lasts forever. A simple routine handles it:

• Search yourself on Spokeo every three to four months, and soon after any move or number change.
• Search the same name variations and states you used the first time.
• Submit any new URL the same way.

Clean up the search result too

Spokeo profiles often rank on Google for people’s names, and the snippet can show your age or city even after the profile is gone. Once the Spokeo page no longer shows your details, use Google’s “Refresh outdated content” tool to ask Google to update or drop the result. Google’s “Results about you” tool can also alert you when your phone number, home address or email appears in search results and let you request their removal from Google.

Removing the listing and cleaning the search result are two separate jobs. Doing both is what actually changes what someone sees when they search for you.

This is an illustrative scenario, not a real client.

Priya, a freelance designer, searches her name on Spokeo and finds one profile under her married name in Texas. That looks like the end of it, but a reverse search on her old mobile number brings up a second profile under her maiden name in Ohio, and a name search with her middle initial turns up a third.

• She saves all three URLs and sets up a separate email address for privacy requests.
• She submits three opt-outs and clicks the three confirmation links as they arrive.
• Two days later all three URLs no longer show her details. One Google result still shows her age and city in the snippet, so she submits a refresh request.
• She moves apartments that summer. At her next check a new Spokeo profile with the new address has appeared. She removes it the same day.

Without the reverse phone search and the name variations, two of her three profiles would have stayed up.

• Not clicking the confirmation link. The request isn’t processed until you do.
• Submitting the search results URL. Paste the individual profile URL, not the list of search results.
• Using your main work email. It adds a new, confirmed address to the data broker world. Use a separate one.
• Expecting it to be permanent. Build in a check every few months.
