Mention Alternatives: 8 Monitoring Tools Compared, Including Free Ones
Mention alternatives compared from each vendor's own pages as of September 2026: Brand24, Awario, Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Talkwalker, YouScan and free tools, with published prices.
The best Mention alternatives depend on why you’re leaving. If you want published prices and a self-serve trial, Brand24 and Awario show their prices on their sites. If you want monitoring and publishing in one tool, look at Sprout Social or Hootsuite, or at Agorapulse, which owns Mention. If you need enterprise-scale research, Lumen by Talkwalker or YouScan. And if you mainly want to know what people see and say about you, free tools, including our own platform, may cover it.
Everything about each tool below comes from its own website, checked in September 2026. Our comparison is research-based: we haven’t run paid accounts side by side, and we don’t give star ratings or scores. Prices change, so check each vendor’s current pricing before you decide.
First, what Mention is today
Mention’s general terms (version dated April 15, 2025) say they apply to Agorapulse SAS, a Paris company “owning the brand Mention.” The site’s demo and trial buttons now go to Agorapulse pages.
As of September 2026, mention.com’s pricing page shows a single Company plan, labeled “Starting at,” with no figure shown and a “Get a demo” button. It covers real-time tracking across Facebook, Instagram, X, Reddit, TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube and more; news, blogs and forums; and 75+ review sites including Google, Facebook, Trustpilot, Amazon and Glassdoor. Historical data access and API access are paid add-ons. Paying yearly gets “2 months free.” Our Mention pricing guide covers the plan and its terms in detail.
Why people look for Mention alternatives
- No visible price. With one Company plan and no figure on the page, you need a demo to find out what it costs.
- Publishing and replying are going away. Mention’s pricing FAQ says it is progressively retiring its “Publish” and “Respond” features, and recommends Agorapulse as “our official solution for publishing and responding needs.” If you used Mention to reply to comments, you’ll need another tool anyway.
- A long notice period on annual plans. Mention’s terms say subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least one week before the end of a monthly term, or 90 days before the end of an annual one. Prices can rise at each renewal, with two weeks’ notice on monthly plans and two months’ on annual plans.
- Extras cost more. Looking back at mentions from before you set up an alert is a paid add-on, and so is the API.

Two free alerting tools, Google Alerts and Talkwalker Alerts, are covered further down.
1. Our free platform (123 Reputation Management)
This one is ours, so weigh that. It isn’t a social listening research tool, and we’d rather say so up front.
Our free platform tags every page-one result for your name as positive, neutral or negative; watches for new reviews and mentions and alerts you when one needs a reply; tracks every result as owned pages climb and old ones slip; and reports back every month in plain English.
It doesn’t do Boolean social listening, share-of-voice analytics, influencer scoring or white-label reports. It doesn’t send review requests or offer webchat, payments, listings sync, integrations or AI replies, and it doesn’t publish posts. If what you mostly used Mention for was hearing about new reviews and mentions, and knowing what people see when they search for you, it may cover that at no cost. Start with a free reputation audit, or see our brand monitoring service if you’d rather have people watch and report for you.
2. Brand24
Brand24 is the closest self-serve match. As of September 2026, its prices page lists Individual ($199 a month billed annually, $249 monthly; 3 keywords, 2,000 mentions a month), Team ($299 / $349; 7 keywords, 10,000 mentions), Pro ($399 / $499; 12 keywords, 40,000 mentions) and Business ($599 / $699; 25 keywords, 100,000 mentions). Enterprise starts at $1,499 a month billed annually.
There’s a 14-day free trial, and the FAQ offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, excluding custom plans and deals negotiated with its sales team. The plan table shows review sources on Pro and Business, and podcasts on Business only.
Fair note: if review monitoring is why you used Mention, you’ll need Brand24’s Pro plan or above. Keyword and mention caps also apply on every plan. Our Brand24 pricing guide has the full breakdown.
3. Awario
Awario is the lowest-cost paid option here. Its pricing page lists Starter at $29 a month billed annually ($49 monthly) with 3 topics and 30,000 new mentions a month; Pro at $89 annually ($149 monthly) with 15 topics, 300,000 mentions and 10 team members; and Enterprise at $249 annually ($399 monthly) with 100 topics, 1,000,000 mentions and unlimited team members. Each topic can hold unlimited keywords, and Boolean search is listed.
The FAQ says the free trial gives you the Starter plan with no credit card, that you can cancel any time by contacting support, and that it can’t refund partial use or time left on a subscription.
Fair note: we didn’t find review-site coverage stated on Awario’s pricing page, so if reviews matter, check before you switch. Our Awario pricing guide covers the plans.
4. Sprout Social
Sprout Social suits teams that lost Mention’s publishing and replying features and want one tool for both. It publishes per-seat prices: Essentials $79, Standard $199, Professional $299 and Advanced $399 a month billed annually (Essentials is $99 billed monthly), with Enterprise by quote. There’s a 30-day free trial with no credit card.
Standard includes keyword and location monitoring, review management and 10 brand keywords. The pricing page says “Premium Analytics and Listening are each available as individual add-ons to the Standard plan and up,” with no add-on price shown.
Fair note: per-seat pricing adds up for larger teams, and full listening costs extra on top. See our Sprout Social pricing guide.
5. Hootsuite
Hootsuite’s plans page lists Standard at $99, Professional at $199 and Advanced at $399 per user a month, based on annual billing, with Enterprise by quote. There’s a 14-day free trial with no credit card, and the FAQ says you won’t be charged automatically when it ends. Standard includes “Monitor your brand and competitors”; the Enterprise plan adds advanced listening, and Hootsuite lists Lumen by Talkwalker as an Enterprise feature.
Fair note: Hootsuite is a publishing and inbox tool first. Its deepest listening sits on the Enterprise tier, so check which listening features your plan actually includes.

Get a free audit6. Lumen by Talkwalker
If you’ve outgrown Mention, Talkwalker is the enterprise step up. Hootsuite acquired Talkwalker in April 2024, and talkwalker.com now says “Talkwalker is now Lumen by Talkwalker.” Its pricing page lists Core, Analyze and Business under “Pick your plan to get a custom quote,” with no prices. Every plan includes unlimited users and professional onboarding, and the page describes coverage of 150 million data sources, 30+ social platforms and 187 languages.
Fair note: it’s quote-based, and its Enterprise Terms of Service renew orders for a year unless you give 60 days’ notice. See our Talkwalker pricing guide and Talkwalker alternatives.
7. YouScan
YouScan publishes one price: Starter 3 at $499 a month billed annually, with 3 topics, up to 15,000 mentions a month, 10 Insights Copilot questions a month, and unlimited users, social searches, rules and alerts. Its unlimited plans, with as many topics as you need, unlimited Copilot questions and API access, are quoted on request.
Fair note: it costs more than Mention-style monitoring tools at the entry level, and 3 topics suits one brand and a couple of competitors.
8. Agorapulse
Agorapulse owns the Mention brand, according to Mention’s terms, and Mention’s own FAQ recommends it “for all your publishing and responding requirements.” If you liked Mention but need publishing and replying, it’s the natural first call.
Fair note: agorapulse.com didn’t load for us when we checked in September 2026, so we can’t confirm its plans, prices or listening features. Check its pricing page directly, and ask whether its listening covers the review sites that Mention’s Company plan does.
Free tools worth running alongside any of these
- Google Alerts. Free. You can set frequency (as it happens, at most once a day or once a week), sources, language and region. It covers web pages rather than most social platforms. See our Google Alerts alternatives guide.
- Talkwalker Alerts. Free and separate from the paid Lumen platform. It sends alerts to any email address, covers news, Twitter (X), blogs and forums, works in 22 languages, supports Boolean operators and delivers by email, RSS or Slack.
How to choose a Mention alternative
- List what you actually used Mention for. Alerts, review monitoring, reports for clients, or replying from the same screen. Each points to a different tool.
- Check review-site coverage plan by plan. Mention’s Company plan lists 75+ review sites. Brand24 includes review sources from Pro; Sprout Social includes review management from Standard. Don’t assume a cheaper plan covers them.
- Estimate your volume. Brand24, Awario and YouScan cap keywords, topics or mentions. Look at how many mentions your Mention alerts produce each month and pick a plan with room to spare.
- Decide whether you need publishing. If yes, compare Sprout Social, Hootsuite and Agorapulse. If no, a listening-only tool is usually cheaper.
- Plan the handover. Export the reports you need before your Mention access ends, and run the new tool in parallel for a couple of weeks where a trial allows.

A worked example: replacing Mention at a small agency
This is an illustrative scenario, not a real client.
A four-person marketing agency used Mention to watch mentions and reviews for six local clients and to send each a white-label monthly report. When Respond was retired, it started looking around. Its annual renewal is five months away.
- It notes the 90-day cancellation deadline and exports the last twelve months of client reports.
- It counts its alerts: six brands plus two competitors each, so it needs room for at least 18 topics or keywords.
- It trials Brand24 and Awario with the same queries for two weeks and checks which one catches each client’s review sites.
- It keeps free Google Alerts running as a cross-check, and sets up our free platform for the two clients whose main worry is what shows up when people search their name.
- It gives written notice before the 90-day deadline, with the new tool’s price confirmed.
