The main Meltwater alternatives are Cision and Muck Rack if you need a full PR suite, Lumen by Talkwalker if social listening matters most, Critical Mention for broadcast coverage, Brand24 if you want published prices and a free trial, and Google Alerts or our free platform if your budget is zero. As of September 2026, Meltwater, Cision, Muck Rack, Talkwalker and Critical Mention are all quote-based, so the real differences are coverage, contract terms and which parts of the job each one does well.

Everything about each company here comes from its own website, checked in September 2026. Our comparisons are research-based: we read each company’s public pages and terms, and we haven’t run paid accounts side by side. Pricing and plans change, so check each vendor’s site before you buy.

Why people look for Meltwater alternatives

Meltwater is a broad platform. Its pricing page lists Starter, Pro, Enterprise and Agency plans, with media intelligence, social listening, AI visibility tracking and media relations modules, and influencer marketing on Enterprise and Agency. The reasons teams look elsewhere are usually practical:

  • No published price. Every Meltwater plan says “Contact Sales,” and each quote is tailored. Teams that want to compare costs quickly find this slow.
  • Contract length. Meltwater says most agreements are annual, “with a minimum contract length of 12 months.” Its US terms (April 5, 2025) renew automatically unless you give written notice at least 60 days before the term ends, at Meltwater’s then-current prices.
  • No self-serve trial. Meltwater “does not offer a self-serve free trial,” though you can book a free, human-guided demo.
  • More than you need. A small team that only needs news alerts, or only a journalist database, may pay for modules it rarely opens.
  • Setup costs. Meltwater says complex setups “may” carry a one-time implementation or onboarding charge.

None of that makes Meltwater a poor choice. It means the right alternative depends on which of those reasons applies to you. For the details, see our Meltwater pricing guide and our Meltwater review.

The alternatives, one by one

1. Our free platform (123 Reputation Management)

This is ours, so we’ve put it first and labeled it clearly. Our free platform tags every page-one result for your name as positive, neutral or negative; watches for new reviews and mentions and alerts you when one needs a reply; tracks every result as owned pages climb and old ones slip; and reports back every month in plain English.

Where it falls short of Meltwater: it doesn’t monitor TV, radio, print or podcasts, has no journalist database, press distribution, influencer tools or social listening dashboards, and doesn’t offer integrations or AI replies. It isn’t a PR suite.

Who it suits: business owners and executives whose real concern is what people see when they search for them, not how many outlets covered a launch. Start with a free reputation audit, or see our reputation monitoring service if you’d like someone to watch it for you.

2. Cision

Cision is the closest like-for-like PR suite to Meltwater. Its CisionOne platform monitors “print, online, TV, radio, social, podcast & magazine coverage, all in real time,” and its pricing page lists four packages: Journalist Outreach, Media Monitoring, Media Monitoring + Social and the CisionOne Suite. PR Newswire, Brandwatch and Trajaan are affiliated brands.

Strengths: you can buy outreach or monitoring on its own rather than the full suite, and press release distribution sits in the same family through PR Newswire.

Things to check: prices aren’t published. Cision’s Master Subscription Agreement (25 September 2025) says fees are invoiced annually in advance and are non-cancellable and non-refundable unless your Order says otherwise; renewal terms sit in your Order. See our Meltwater vs Cision comparison and Cision pricing guide.

3. Muck Rack

Muck Rack is a PR platform built around its media database and pitching. Its pricing page lists Starter, Standard and Premier plans for brands and separately for agencies, all “Contact us.”

Strengths: a focused choice if journalist outreach is your main job. Muck Rack says its pricing “depends on a few factors specific to your team including the number of users,” so small teams can keep seats down.

Things to check: Print & Broadcast Monitoring and Social Listening are add-ons, and the API is for Premier customers only. Its terms (March 12, 2025) say annual subscriptions are billed in advance and are non-refundable for the period purchased. See our Muck Rack pricing guide.

4. Lumen by Talkwalker

Talkwalker now brands its product “Lumen by Talkwalker.” Its pricing page asks you to “pick your plan to get a custom quote” from Core, Analyze and Business. Core covers social listening and media monitoring with custom dashboards, reports and alerts, plus monitoring of how AI assistants talk about your brand. Analyze and Business add more non-sampled results volume.

Strengths: every plan lists unlimited users, and the pricing page says all plans include professional onboarding and customer support. That can matter if user numbers drive up your Meltwater quote, since Meltwater lists users among its pricing factors.

Things to check: no prices or trial on the page; you request a demo. Its strength is listening and analytics rather than journalist outreach. See our Talkwalker pricing guide.

5. Critical Mention

Critical Mention focuses on earned media monitoring, with broadcast, online news, social and podcasts listed on its site. Its pricing page offers custom packages for large PR agencies, growing firms and individual brands, “special rates for nonprofits” and API access for partners.

Strengths: a good fit if TV and radio coverage is the main thing you need tracked. Nonprofit rates are stated openly.

Things to check: prices, trials and contract terms aren’t published. See our Critical Mention pricing guide.

6. Brand24

Brand24 is the easiest alternative to budget for, because it publishes prices. As of September 2026, plans run from Individual at $199 a month to Business at $599 a month billed annually ($249 to $699 billed monthly), with Enterprise from $1,499 a month. Plans are sized by keywords and monthly mentions.

Strengths: a 14-day free trial with no credit card, and a 30-day money-back guarantee that excludes custom plans and negotiated deals.

Things to check: it’s an online mention tool. It doesn’t list TV, radio or print monitoring, and it isn’t a journalist database. See our Brand24 pricing guide.

7. Google Alerts

Google Alerts is free and emails you when new web pages, news or blog posts match your search terms. It won’t give you sentiment, share of voice, broadcast clips or reporting, but for a small business watching its own name, it’s a sensible starting point before paying for anything.

How to choose a Meltwater alternative

  1. Name the main job. Pitching journalists points to Muck Rack or Cision’s outreach package. Tracking TV and radio points to Critical Mention or a monitoring package. Social listening points to Talkwalker or Brand24. Watching your own search results points to our free platform.
  2. Decide whether you need broadcast and print. These are often the costliest parts of a quote. If online coverage is enough, published-price tools become realistic.
  3. Count users. Meltwater and Muck Rack both name user count as a pricing factor; Talkwalker lists unlimited users on every plan.
  4. Read the contract before the demo ends. Ask for the term, auto-renewal, notice period and renewal price in writing. If you’re leaving Meltwater, check your own 60-day non-renewal deadline first.
  5. Get two proposals. Even if you stay with Meltwater, a second quote makes the renewal conversation easier.

A worked example: switching for a narrower need

This is an illustrative scenario, not a real client.

A regional credit union has used a broad media intelligence platform for two years but mostly reads daily news alerts and one monthly coverage report. Its marketing manager lists the jobs actually done: online news alerts, a monthly summary and occasional local TV checks. She prices Brand24 for online mentions, asks Critical Mention for a broadcast-only quote, and sets up Google Alerts as a backstop. She sends the non-renewal notice before the deadline, and only then compares the combined cost with her incumbent’s renewal offer.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best alternative to Meltwater?

It depends on the job. Cision is the closest like-for-like PR suite, Muck Rack suits journalist outreach, Lumen by Talkwalker suits social listening, Critical Mention suits broadcast monitoring, and Brand24 suits teams that want published prices. For your own search results, our free platform is a free starting point.

Is there a free alternative to Meltwater?

No free tool matches Meltwater’s broadcast, print and analytics coverage. Google Alerts is free for basic web and news alerts, and our free platform tracks your page-one results and alerts you to new reviews and mentions.

Which Meltwater alternatives publish their prices?

As of September 2026, Brand24 does, from $199 a month billed annually. Cision, Muck Rack, Talkwalker and Critical Mention are all quote-based.

How do I leave Meltwater?

Under its US terms dated April 5, 2025, subscriptions renew automatically unless you give written notice of non-renewal at least 60 days before the term ends. Fees paid are non-refundable. Check your order confirmation, which takes priority.

Is Cision cheaper than Meltwater?

Neither publishes prices, so there’s no honest general answer. Ask both for proposals covering the same sources, regions and users, and compare the renewal terms as well as the first-year price.
