Reputation Monitoring Tools: What Each One Actually Watches
A research-based comparison of reputation monitoring tools, sorted by what they watch: reviews, search results, news and the web, social media and AI answers, with free options first.
Reputation monitoring tools watch different things, so the right one depends on where your reputation actually lives. Review monitoring tools (ReviewTrackers, GatherUp, Birdeye, Yext) watch review sites. Mention and web monitoring tools (Google Alerts, Brand24, Mention) watch news, blogs, forums and social posts. Enterprise listening suites (Talkwalker, Brandwatch, Meltwater) add scale, analytics and, increasingly, what AI assistants say about you. Most small businesses can start free with Google Alerts, their review site notifications and our free platform, which also watches the search results for your name.
This page is a hub. It sorts the main tools by what they watch, compares them as of September 2026 using each company’s own pages, and links to our deeper reviews and comparisons. There are no star ratings or scores here, for anyone, including us.
How we compared reputation monitoring tools
This is a research-based comparison. We didn’t sign up for these tools or test them on live accounts, and we don’t claim to have measured how fast or how completely any of them finds mentions. Every fact comes from the company’s own public pages, checked in September 2026.
For each tool we asked four questions:
- What does it watch? Review sites, search results, news and blogs, social platforms, forums, or AI answers.
- How does it tell you? Real-time alerts, digests or dashboards, where the company says so.
- What does it cost? Published prices, or “not published” where pricing goes through sales.
- Can you try it? Free plans or trials, only where stated.
If you’re new to the subject, our guide to online reputation monitoring explains what to watch and how to triage what you find. This page is about the tools.

Free options first
123 Reputation Management (our free platform)
Our free platform is ours, so we’re saying that up front. It tags every page-one result for your name as positive, neutral or negative, watches for new reviews and mentions and alerts you when one needs a reply, tracks every result as owned pages climb and old ones slip, and reports back every month in plain English.
The search result tracking is the part that sets it apart from mention tools, which focus on finding new content rather than showing what already sits on page one when someone searches your name. What it doesn’t do is social listening at scale, sentiment dashboards across millions of posts, review requests, AI replies or integrations. If you need those, look further down this page.
Google Alerts
Google Alerts emails you when new content matches a search term. You can choose how often (as it happens, at most once a day or at most once a week) and which sources (automatic, news, blogs, web, video, books, discussions or finance). It’s the obvious free starting point. It doesn’t cover most social platforms or review sites well, and it won’t show you what already ranks. Our guides to Google Alerts for companies and setting up Google Alerts for your name show how to write alerts that catch the right things.
Review site notifications
Once you’ve claimed your review profiles, check each platform’s notification settings; many can email you when a new review arrives. It’s free, but it means one inbox per site. For a business with a Google profile and one industry site, that may be all you need.
Mention and web monitoring tools
These tools search the open web and social platforms for your brand name and keywords, and alert you when something new appears.
Brand24
What it watches: Facebook, Instagram, X, news, blogs, Reddit, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, reviews, podcasts, newsletters and other sources, with AI sentiment analysis on every plan.
Pricing as of September 2026: Individual is $199 a month billed annually or $249 monthly (3 keywords, 2,000 mentions a month, updates every 12 hours). Team is $299 billed annually or $349 monthly (7 keywords, hourly updates), Pro $399 or $499 (12 keywords, real-time updates) and Business $599 or $699 (25 keywords). Enterprise starts from $1,499 a month billed annually. There’s a 14-day free trial.
Fair notes: clear published pricing and wide source coverage. Keyword and mention caps shape which plan you need, and the entry plan updates only twice a day.
Mention
What it watches: social platforms including Facebook, Instagram, X, Reddit, TikTok, Pinterest and YouTube; news, blogs and forums; and 75+ review sites, including Google, Facebook, Trustpilot, Amazon and Glassdoor. It supports Boolean search, sentiment analysis, share of voice, alerts, and integrations with Slack, Zapier and other tools.
Pricing as of September 2026: its pricing page shows a single Company plan and routes you to a demo; we couldn’t see a price in the page. Historical data is a paid add-on. The site also offers a free trial.
Fair notes: combines web, social and review monitoring in one place. Get a quote before you plan around it.
Social media tools with monitoring built in
If your team already manages social media, the tool you use for publishing may cover basic monitoring.
Hootsuite: its Standard plan includes monitoring your brand and competitors, and Enterprise adds advanced listening across social, digital and AI. Hootsuite acquired Talkwalker in 2024, and says its advanced listening is powered by Talkwalker. Its FAQ says paid plans start at $99 for Standard, $199 for Professional and up to $399 for Advanced, sold per user, with custom Enterprise pricing and a free 14-day trial, as of September 2026.
Sprout Social: plans start at Essentials, $79 per seat a month billed annually ($99 billed monthly). Its Standard plan ($199 per seat a month, billed annually) includes keyword and location monitoring and review management; Advanced ($399 per seat) adds sentiment in its inbox and reviews, and message spike alerts. Its Listening product is an add-on from Standard up. It offers a 30-day free trial with no credit card required, as of September 2026.

Enterprise listening and media intelligence
These suites suit brands with large conversation volume, several markets or PR teams who need analysis, not just alerts. None publishes prices.
Talkwalker, owned by Hootsuite since 2024 and now branded Lumen by Talkwalker, offers Core, Analyze and Business plans on a custom quote. Core includes social listening and media monitoring, custom dashboards, reports and alerts, unlimited users, and what it calls LLM Insights, which monitors how AI assistants talk about your brand. Higher plans add more non-sampled results volume, topics and history.
Brandwatch sells Consumer Intelligence, Social Media Management and Influencer Marketing, with standard to enterprise plans for each, all through a demo. Its Consumer Intelligence product includes flexible automated reporting and alerts.
Meltwater has Starter, Pro, Enterprise and Agency plans covering media intelligence, social listening, AI visibility tracking and media relations. Its FAQ says pricing is tailored rather than a set list, so every plan routes to sales.

If most of what matters about you is in reviews, a review-focused tool is usually a better fit than a listening suite.
ReviewTrackers combines review data from 100+ sources, with Starter and Essential plans (Starter includes alerts, dashboards, review requests and responding; Essential adds experience analysis and competitor insights) and a Data Only option. Pricing is custom, booked through a call.
GatherUp monitors reviews on 100+ sites alongside SMS and email review requests and NPS surveys. Its Small Business plan is $99 a month for one location, with a 14-day free trial.
Yext Reviews tracks reviews from Google, Facebook, Yelp and 80+ industry sites in one dashboard, with alerts. It’s aimed at multi-location brands and isn’t publicly priced; see our Yext review and Yext alternatives.
Birdeye and Podium include review monitoring inside wider platforms. Birdeye adds listings, social, surveys and competitor tracking; Podium adds texting, webchat, phones and payments. Both route pricing through their sales teams. Our Birdeye review, Podium review, Birdeye pricing, Podium pricing and Birdeye vs Podium pages go through them, and Birdeye alternatives and Podium alternatives list other options.
If you’d rather choose a review platform than a monitoring tool, see Trustpilot alternatives. For the full range of reputation software, including listings and review requests, see our hub of online reputation management tools.
Monitoring stacks by budget
| Situation | A sensible setup |
|---|---|
| One location, few mentions | Google Alerts, review site notifications and our free platform, checked weekly |
| Several locations, reviews matter most | A review monitoring tool with alerts per location, plus our free platform for search results |
| A known brand with social conversation | A mention tool such as Brand24 or Mention, or listening in your social media suite |
| A large brand, many markets, a PR team | An enterprise suite such as Talkwalker, Brandwatch or Meltwater |
| A person, not a business | Google Alerts for your name and our free platform; most listening suites are built for brands |
How to choose a monitoring tool
- List where your reputation lives. Search your name, add “reviews”, “complaints” and “scam”, and note which sites appear. That tells you whether you need review, web, social or search result monitoring.
- Write your keyword list. Brand names, misspellings, product names and key people. Our guide to tracking brand mentions shows how. Then check each tool’s keyword and mention limits against it.
- Check alert speed. Some plans update in real time, others every hour or twice a day. For a crisis-prone business, that difference matters.
- Trial with real searches. During a trial, compare what the tool finds against a manual search for the same week.
- Plan the response. A tool finds things. Someone still has to reply, report or fix them.
A worked example
Here’s an illustrative scenario, not a real client. A regional accounting firm with three offices notices that a former employee’s complaint on a forum now ranks for the firm’s name. Nobody saw it for months. The managing partner asks for “a monitoring tool”.
The office manager lists what they need to watch: Google reviews for three offices, the firm’s name and partners’ names across the web, and the first page of search results. She sets Google Alerts for each name, turns on review notifications for each Google profile, and adds our free platform to track what’s on page one and flag new reviews and mentions. Social listening isn’t needed: the firm has almost no social conversation. If review volume grows, she’ll trial a review monitoring tool with a published price.
If you’d rather have someone do the watching and triage for you, that’s our reputation monitoring service.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best reputation monitoring tool?
It depends on what you need to watch. For reviews, tools like ReviewTrackers, GatherUp or Yext Reviews. For web and social mentions, Brand24 or Mention. For large brands, Talkwalker, Brandwatch or Meltwater. For free monitoring of your name, Google Alerts plus our free platform, which also tracks your page-one search results.
Are there free reputation monitoring tools?
Yes. Google Alerts is free, many review platforms can notify you of new reviews once your profile is claimed, and our free platform tags your search results and alerts you to new reviews and mentions. Several paid tools also offer free trials, including Brand24 (14 days), Hootsuite (14 days) and Sprout Social (30 days), as of September 2026.
Do reputation monitoring tools track search results?
Mention and listening tools are built to alert you to new content, not to show what already ranks on page one for your name. Our free platform does that, and you can also check manually each month in a private browser window.
Can monitoring tools track what AI chatbots say about my brand?
Some are starting to. Talkwalker and Meltwater both list AI visibility features on their sites as of September 2026. You can also ask the main AI assistants about your business yourself each month and note what they say.
How much do reputation monitoring tools cost?
As of September 2026, published prices run from free (Google Alerts) to $99 a month for a single-location review tool, and from $199 a month billed annually for Brand24’s entry plan. Enterprise listening suites don’t publish prices. Check each company’s pricing page for current terms.
